2023 presidential election: The PDP discusses “Wike banning Atiku’s campaign”

2023 presidency: PDP opens up on ‘Wike banning Atiku’s campaign

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has denied allegations that Governor Nyesom Wike forbade party members from campaigning for Atiku Abubakar in the State.

Tambari Gbara, the PDP’s state publicity secretary, emphasized that Wike never forbade party leaders from running for office in Rivers State.

Gbara was responding to charges made by Ledogo Maeba, a former senator for Rivers Southeast, that Wike had forewarned some party chieftains against supporting Atiku in the state.

Maeba claimed that Wike had issued the warning following a visit to Atiku in which he and other party chieftains had apologized on the governor’s behalf.

The ex-lawmaker claimed that the governor chastised them for visiting Atiku without his permission.

Maeba claimed that Wike also threatened to deal with anyone who promoted Atiku in Rivers State without his consent.

Gbara, however, pressed Maeba to back up his claim that Wike had threatened anyone who was supporting Atiku in the State.

“If the governor wants to make that declaration, he would make it official,” said Gbara in a statement. “Nobody in the State should campaign for Atiku Abubakar.”

“Governor Wike does not conceal his emotions. I doubt he would say that in private, even if he wanted to. Therefore, the accuser needs to show up and support their claims.

“He (Maeba) should be able to provide Rivers residents and Nigerians with proof,” the author writes.
