Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has justified the rationale behind his invitation to representatives from the state’s rival political parties to commission projects.
On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, he was addressing during the commissioning of the Ogbunubali Eastern Bypass dualized road in Port Harcourt.
The governor said he wants them to visit, see what he has accomplished, and bring the word back to their homes.
Nobody can stop me from inviting individuals from different backgrounds to witness what we have accomplished and what we are doing in Rivers state, he declared.
“Last week, Babajide Sawolu, the governor of Lagos State, visited this area. For the commissioning of the assembly residence, the former governor of Sokoto was present today, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives will be here on Thursday.
“Visit the wonders we performed with God’s assistance.
“Whether you are a member of the Labour Party, APC, or PDP, you are invited to come and witness before returning home to compare.”
After former Rivers South East senator Lee Meaba referred to Wike’s actions as anti-party activities, Wike defended himself.
Sen. Meaba questioned why Governor Wike, who is currently running for president of the All Progressives Congress, is endorsing Bola Tinubu’s allies rather than the PDP candidate.
“If we come across somebody who wants to prevent us from creating the next central government, that person needs to understand why he is fighting.
“I stand to be incorrect, but if you forbid us from working for Atiku, that is the height of anti-party.
“You line up Tinubu’s men in the middle of our campaign; why do you line up Tinubu’s men? You are showcasing the APC and Tinubu above our own candidate.”
Since Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, chose someone else to be his running mate, Wike has been angry with the PDP.
